Balance training
I’ve done a little bit of silat, a couple of years of Modern Arnis, and Kempo Jutsu Kai (Professor Kimo Ferreira). One of the things I noticed in all of these experiences is that the difference between a good practitioner and a beginner is balance. (And flow and knowledge, of course.)
So my question today is, how do you train balance? I spent years and years walking curbs when I was younger, and it is my experience that it only improves your balance on that object. It basically teaches you to walk that curb, not to have better balance in general.
The reason this is a concern, is because balance creates grace, which creates flow, which creates power. How do you train for balance? Do you? Is this a worthy endeavor? Some of these silat guys can stand on one leg for hours, same with kung fu.
What do you do to train your balance? Are there exercises or forms or activities that you think are the best? Please share your thoughts.
